The diver's eye view is a unique perspective of the undersea world. Through experience, as fantasy and imagination give way to natural beauty, the undersea panorama becomes familiar, and the creatures encountered take their place in the natural order. Just as the backpacker gains a knowledge of the forest, streams, mountains and wildlife he encounters, the adventurer in the undersea world appreciates another corner of the world where coral canyons, intricate ecosystems, and a rainbow of life fill the senses.

As an artist and diver in the undersea world, Brent Bauer has opened a window into the diver's eye view to share with other divers; and for those who cannot or may never see the undersea world firsthand, these undersea portraits of nature become their window into the ocean realm.

Brent Bauer, M.A., D.D.S

A native of Indiana, Brent is an active Open Water SCUBA Instructor, and has been diving for over 25 years from the icy Great Lakes to the warm waters of the Cayman Islands. As an artist, Brent holds a Master of Fine Arts and is a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators. He taught courses in Medical and Biological Illustration at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore Maryland for 10 years.

It was only natural that Brent chose to capture the undersea world not with a net or speargun, but with brushes, and canvas. Working in oils, watercolor and mixed media, Brent's goal is to create an original collection of undersea portraits which will capture the pageantry and realism of the undersea world. In Brent's undersea paintings, pillars of coral replace mountains, rivers of sand replace winding streams, and schools of fish replace flocks of birds.

Each portrait of nature is based on Brent's personal encounters and impressions of the undersea world, and will be available in either signed limited editions or signed open editions.
